Wolf Laurel Historical Society
Program Wednesday, July 14 at 4 pm at WLCC

The WLHS is proud to present Laura Boosinger in an inspiring and educational program of “Music from the Southern Mountains." Laura is one of North Carolina’s finest traditional musicians and comes to us in support of our 2010 summer season tribute to “New Harmonies...America's Grass Roots Music.” This is the Smithsonian Institution's interactive exhibit, to be opened in the Ramsey Center, on the campus of Mars Hill College, in September.

She will also sing to Dr. Alan J. Snider, one of the founding members of the WLHS, in honor of his 99th birthday. Laura, who is sometimes called "the Songbird of the Smokies," will entertain you with her musical talents and pleasant personality.

She features a variety of traditional stringed instruments, including old-time banjo, guitar, Appalachian dulcimer and fingerstyle autoharp. In addition to her many performances in and out of this county and even this country, Laura is the Executive Director of the Madison County Arts Council.

Remember that the non-profit WLHS presents these programs for your education and enjoyment of our WNC history. We need your support to continue our efforts to preserve our heritage, provide honoraria to our speakers and to our video recorders of these programs. Please join our Historical Society by paying dues of only $15 single, $25 family. Note that we still have copies of “Upper Laurel and Her People” available for $15. Please notify Joanne Jackson if you are interested.
