Passing of Alex MacWilliam

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alex MacWilliam on Dec. 10. Alex was the first President of the newly-formed Wolf Laurel Country Club in 1999 and was instrumental in creating the Club that we know and love. A tireless champion, Alex advocated upgrading the Golf Course, renovating the kitchen and was the driving force behind obtaining the ABC permits, along with other accomplishments too numerous to mention.

Re: Operating assessment

Bill Hammel, when he was our treasurer, corresponded with you in the newsletter regarding the probability of an operating assessment at the end of 2012. That, in fact, is what the executive committee of the Board of Directors feels must be done. The amount is $250.00 for golf members and $125.00 for social members. The uncertain economic times resulted in reduced use of the Club during the 2012 season in spite of our efforts to hold down costs. Personnel costs remain an acceptable percentage of the budget, but increased costs combined with reduced spending created the shortfall. The amount, while nonetheless regrettable, is 20% less than last year when the shortfall required a $320.00 assessment for golf and $160.00 for social. We remain debt free and we have reason to believe our membership has stabilized with new members exceeding resigned ones. It is our hope that the overall economy will improve in 2013, and that, combined with renewed budgetary efforts on our part, will lead to a better environment at this time next year.

One half of the amount will be billed in the December statement and the other half will be billed in January. Thank for your continued support of Wolf Laurel Country Club.
