Wolf Laurel Historical Society
Program Wednesday, July 14 at 4 pm at WLCC

The WLHS is proud to present Laura Boosinger in an inspiring and educational program of “Music from the Southern Mountains." Laura is one of North Carolina’s finest traditional musicians and comes to us in support of our 2010 summer season tribute to “New Harmonies...America's Grass Roots Music.” This is the Smithsonian Institution's interactive exhibit, to be opened in the Ramsey Center, on the campus of Mars Hill College, in September.

She will also sing to Dr. Alan J. Snider, one of the founding members of the WLHS, in honor of his 99th birthday. Laura, who is sometimes called "the Songbird of the Smokies," will entertain you with her musical talents and pleasant personality.

She features a variety of traditional stringed instruments, including old-time banjo, guitar, Appalachian dulcimer and fingerstyle autoharp. In addition to her many performances in and out of this county and even this country, Laura is the Executive Director of the Madison County Arts Council.

Remember that the non-profit WLHS presents these programs for your education and enjoyment of our WNC history. We need your support to continue our efforts to preserve our heritage, provide honoraria to our speakers and to our video recorders of these programs. Please join our Historical Society by paying dues of only $15 single, $25 family. Note that we still have copies of “Upper Laurel and Her People” available for $15. Please notify Joanne Jackson if you are interested.

Hospice 2010 - 24th Annual Hospice Golf Tournament and Fun on the Mountain at Wolf Laurel

Mark your calendars for July 16-17 for the Wolf Laurel Benefit for Hospice of Madison County. Last year we raised $51,000, bringing the total contributed to over $700,000 since 1987. Wolf Laurel is the single largest contributor to this organization. The proceeds from this tournament go directly for the care and support of Hospice patients and their families. We thank you for your past generosity in supporting such a worthwhile and compassionate cause.

This year, the Wolf Laurel County Club is once again hosting this community fundraising event. We are optimistic that, with your help, this year’s event will be as successful as in years past, and we hope to raise even more money to benefit Hospice of Madison County.

Here's a summary of events for this fun-filled weekend:

Friday, July 16 – Golf for Wolf Laurel Residents/Guests

Captain’s Choice – Bring your own foursome or let us pair you!

o 8:00 am – Continental Breakfast and Registration
o 9:00 am – Shotgun Start
o Refreshments on the course
o Handicaps will be used

Saturday, July 17 - Open to All

Golf - Captain’s Choice – Bring your own foursome or let us pair you!

o 9:00 am – 1st Tee Time – Registration ½ hour prior to tee time
+ Box Lunch and Refreshments on the course

Prizes will be given for winning teams and Closest to the Pin. Gift Bags for all participants. We will also again have a car donated by Burnsville Chevrolet for the Hole–in-One prize both days on Hole # 6.

Registration forms for the Golf Tournament are now available at the Pro Shop in WLCC.

o 10:00 am – 2:00 pm Farmer’s Market with fresh produce, home-baked goods, plants
o 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm Silent Auction of unique items, memorabilia, artwork, jewelry, gift certificates, etc., now including Sealed Bids
o 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm Live Auction of valuable items including condo vacations, special dinners, and our Wall of Wine
o 7:00 pm – Dinner

(This year we are no longer having the Friday Wine Tasting or the Saturday Trash & Treasures.)

Registration for Dinner and Auctions is being handled differently this year to prevent the confusion and errors of past years when it was combined with the Golf Registration Form.

For Auction and Dinner reservations – contact Michele Hunt @ 689-9092 with any questions. Click here to print The Dinner and Auction Reservation Form. This year the dinner is $40 for adults and $20 for children.

We will again have a 50/50 Drawing, with 50% of the proceeds going to Hospice and 50% to the winner. Last year’s winner received $1150. The 50/50 box and tickets will be found in the Pro Shop during the day and in the Lounge in the evenings. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. The drawing will be made at the dinner, Saturday. You do not need to be present to win. Just put your name and phone number on the ticket(s) you purchase.

We will have a Raffle for a Basket of Cheer, donated by One-Stop Wine and Spirits of Johnson City. This basket has a value of over $200 and can be yours if you have the winning ticket. Purchase these tickets for $5 each or 3 for $10, in the Pro Shop or the Lounge. This drawing will also be made on Saturday and you do not need to be present to win.
